Sorrow after Departure

"Sorrow after Departure" is an independent surrealist silent film that tells an epic and melancholic love story through its enchanting and romantic lens. Inspired by the life story of Qu Yuan, a renowned patriotic poet and politician of the State of Chu, the film presents the narrative from the perspectives of queer love and spiritual devotion. The magical rituals in the film draw references from the folklore, customs and shamanic traditions of both northern and southern China.
